I keep thinking of giving this a watch. But maybe it's not worth it?

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know. Some people love it? People talk about it like it's a show for geeks, but... yeah, not really seeing it. I like the people in it, but the actual writing and humor strikes me as kind of dumb. I don't like the female character at all. She's kind of ditzy and doesn't know about computers, hur hur hur! Yeah no.

They were all stupid in different ways, though? Not just Jen.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I know. I guess it rubbed me the wrong way because Jen seemed stereotypically dumb in the way that irritates me most: female, girly, in IT but clueless about everything IT, supposedly superior in social skills compared to her geeky employees, etc. I'm not trying to say it's logical, but I just really didn't like it.

So almost like a British Big Bang Theory?

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Less offensive than BBT, I'd say.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Completely not.

Jen is clueless about her ineptitude for her job in any capacity, not just IT related issues.

Roy is clueless about what an arse he is and how he comes across (as a complete prick).

Moss is clueless about social situations but doesn't come across as an arse (like Roy and Sheldon) and gets taken advantage of because he's so accommodating.

I like BBT but a lot it of relies on the characters not being very nice people. The IT Crowd try to be nice people and their obliviousness to their own faults is what gets them into their situations. I would recommend the dinner party episode to see what I mean.

OMG the Dinner Party episode is wonderful.
lentils: I wouldn't be worth much if I couldn't feel (Default)

"Look normal! .... MORE normal, MORE normal!"

I find it hilarious and every single even remotely nerdy person I've ever shown it to loved it. So I'd give it a try in your place.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
*raises hand* Nerdy person here who didn't love it. But I'm not an IT type nerd, so maybe that's why?

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Totally worth it. Pay no mind to OP and the first comment.
