Re: What are you reading FS?

I'm working my way through Spinoza's Tractatus Theologico-Politicus and William Carlos William's Paterson.

I always feel like a pretentious asshole when someone makes a thread like this and my response is something along those lines. But that is, in fact, just what I'm reading.

Ah, yes, the heavy reading amongst the light reading. :) I've been there.

It was all, "Why yes, I'm reading Theatrical Convention and Audience Response in Early Modern Drama right now. No, it's really interesting, I'm not just saying that!" Also, go through my bookshelves and take a shot every time you see the word "sourcebook." ;)

You shouldn't. Some people like heavy lifting, some like heavy cooking, some like heavy reading. It's just a matter of personal taste.

That said, I've never heard of those books.

They're really interesting! The Spinoza is essentially an examination of what role religion should play in civic affairs. Except by a really influential philosopher who had crazy whacked out views on the nature of God. And Paterson is basically this very long modernist American poem attempting to sum up the city of Paterson NJ. It's fascinating.
