the horrible secret of F!S is that people here tend to have contrarian reactions to anything that gets popular. self included. i think we're still very smart & funny & wise despite that though.

yeah, i've notice a lot of if has to do with how you present sjw stuff too like

if you'd say "lol i can't believe there's losers who identify as demisexual, that's not a real sexuality," you'll probably get ass pats.

but if you'd say something like, "i think it's possible for people to have such a low sex drive that it's difficult for them to figure out what their sexuality is and might identify as demisexual because of that," you'd probably get a few people agreeing with that

so depending on how it's presented, f!s can look fairly conservative in comparision to the rest of fandom, i think

Honestly, I don't dislike SJWs because it's contrarian but because I'm a leftist. And I think SJWs do MUCH more harm than good. They take real social issues and use them for the pettiest things, completely diluting their importance. It's infuriating to see something you care bout twisted in such a way.

They also have this really awful tendency to see everything in black and white terms and be completely unable to think about issues in complex ways or to consider different PoVs. And they're really ignorant a lot of the times and belligerent in that ignorance.

Agreed. I mean, I sort of identify as a SJW, or at least I'm the thing that people on the right complain about when they're complaining about SJW. But I also despise the pettiness. And I'm a crusty old leftist who comes from a background of marching in the streets/direct action, so whenever I see Tumblr flamewars over the slightest differences of opinion, I want to scream, "but you're doing it wrong!"

Then again, I was a self-righteous little shitbag at 20, so I shouldn't be surprised that 20-year-olds get into stupid flamewars, and be glad that they're into social justice at all.

I'm in my early 20s as well and I don't think that's an excuse. Maybe it's because I'm a WOC but I just feel so PATRONIZED by SJWs. Or what's worse is when you talk to another WOC an she tries to shut you down as a "white girl." Now THAT makes me fume.

They don't feel like allies. Because, if you disagree with them, they'll shut you out and INSIST that they know better and you're suffering from "internalized whatever."

Ugh, I'm sorry you had to deal with that. That's just shit activism (or inactivism, as the case may be). And it's being a shit human being.

Hope I didn't sound condescending or anything—I didn't mean to imply that everyone in their early 20s is self-righteous. Just that I was, and I see how others can be, because when one first gets into a thing, and one is all passionate about that thing, insufferability can follow. But I know teenagers who have it more together than I do now, let alone when I was their age, so it's not simply an age thing. It's not an excuse for being an asshole, but I'm slightly more understanding if a person is trying to find their footing and negotiating their place in the world.
