Right on, OP. I didn't start watching until late S6, and I do think some seasons lately have been weaker than others (not a huge fan of 9 as a whole, but there are always standout eps), but I love the show and am in it for the duration. There's so much negativity in the fandom and so many people will not shut up with their mantra about how it should have ended with Swan Song, or even earlier. Because saying it 100 zillion times will magically make it happen. I love the episode, I start crying as soon as the narration starts every single time, but I would have been disappointed as shit if that was all there was, lol. I always want to know what happened after the big apocalypse or what have you, and they give me that so consistently. Plus Dean is so beautiful that I still get distracted watching him, lolol.

I can't stand Swan Song. I've watched it once and while I agree that it's technically perfect, I will never be able to accept that Dean (and Bobby) let Sam go to hell. It's just something I will never be able to forgive.

So I'm extra happy the show continued.

Well, since that was originally supposed to be the end of the series, they would have gone together, with some epilogue afterward that hasn't been disclosed, so they had to change that but still have some big consequence to the whole thing. They really had no choice but to let him go at that point, but I get what you're saying. It's just not everybody's favorite episode or the ultimate ending, contrary to popular opinion.

Really? What I've heard is that the show was always supposed to end with Sam in hell and that it was only after it was renewed for another season that they added the shot of Sam standing outside Dean's house.

Yes, I agree. There have been other great episodes afterwards.

Yeah, Adam wouldn't have existed or wouldn't have been there, so Dean would have been Michael's vessel and they both would have gone into the hole together. Then the epilogue, which I figure would have been them being saved from hell and going to heaven for good. I do think it will ultimately end with a final death and peaceful afterlife. After they tear the place up to find all their people instead of just hanging out in Matrix world forever like Dean complained about, lol.
