socialjusticeleague.net, the original host of "How to Be a Fan of Problematic Things." I took one look at the author's other writings and noped the hell out.

(I've also read Jezebel, but I don't actually consider it a feminist site. It's how Gawker pretends to be feminist to get clicks and ad revenue, like how Io9 pretends to be geeky and Gawker core pretends to be journalism.)

For geeky feminist or lady-friendly stuff, I def recommend The Mary Sue. No site is perfect, but it's definitely my favorite for pop culture stuff.

As much as that article gets praised and passed around, I've always had some issues with it anyway. I don't like this dichotomy of problematic/not problematic implicit in the way it's framed.

I'm curious. What exactly is so racist and horrible about it? I was sifting through and it looked pretty typical tumblr grade SJ.

First off, mea culpa. I misremembered. This wasn't the site I thought was racist. It frustrated me, but not for reasons of race.

I don't really want to dig through the whole site for every stupid thing they've said, but this is a good example of the problem: http://www.socialjusticeleague.net/2012/07/separatism-and-intersectionality/

It's bad for women to ostracize men, because black women may feel more comfortable interacting with black men than with white women. That's it. That's their argument against ostracizing men, as opposed to say, how stupid it is to judge someone for their dangly bits or lack thereof. Honestly, folks like this who think they're tolerant piss me off ten times more than the gleefully intolerant folks.

Io9 is the only site of those metioned that is what it's supposed to be, even though it still has faux-progressive clickbait that really tempts me to vote Republican just to fuck them up. Seriously. The rest of Gawker just puts me in a rage. And I agree with most of what they say but then they go to far left and wind up in that idiot-hole that all the people who live in reality don't get near.

As a group, Gawker's all over the place. Lifehacker seems to be decent, and I actually like Kotaku. (They wear their biases on their sleeves, but that's better than faking objectivity while reporting with a slant.) Deadspin seems okay, too, although I don't get half their jokes. I like how they come down hard on athletes who've been accused of violence against women.
