dude, there were a TON of negative reviews and complaints written by butthurt parents when Paranorman came out and had a two second scene revealing that a male character had a boyfriend. people flipped their shit and a lot of them trotted out the old "how will I explain this to my children??" line. they didn't outweigh the positive reaction people had about the scene (imo at least) but they were definitely noticeable

here's a pretty mild example. the author is not nearly as inflammatory as other people I've seen, but she does "warn" parents not to see the movie if they don't want to have an "uncomfortable conversation" with their children about it. Unsurprisingly, the comment section has some dude insisting that homosexuality is a mental disorder that can be cured, homosexuality is too complicated for kids to understand, and everyone should go home and read their bible (fortunately, he is shut down by a few other people): http://www.nationalreview.com/home-front/314665/iparanormani-has-gay-sub-plot/nancy-frenc
