I'd pick having female characters called sluts and whores over how some fans are treating other fans like shit just for disagreeing with them.

You are part of the problem. This is a terrible thing to say.

If you honestly cannot see how much damage that kind of language causes, enables and perpetuates, you are part of the problem.

Jesus, what a stupid, clueless, oblivious, "lemme play devil's advocate" thing to say. Fuck off. Here's a clue: In real life, no one screams "misogynist" etc. at people who don't smile at them on the street. Language like slut and whore has actual, real life consequences--usage of that language underlines the message that it's okay, that women really are the Other. Assholel fans are not an oppressed class--they don't ever have to worry about being followed on the street.

Too bad you took what I said COMPLETELY out of context:

"I'd honestly rather we didn't have either, but if I had to choose, I'd pick having female characters called sluts and whores over how some fans are treating other fans like shit just for disagreeing with them."

Yeah, calling female characters sluts and whores is an issue. NO WHERE did I deny that. But they're not real. So you know what? I will never take attacks against them as seriously as I do REAL people.

I'm not playing "devil's advocate" -- that's my opinion. A girl who calls a female character a bitch/slut/whore is wrong. But I'm even more bothered by people who dog pile and insult girls who, for example, don't like Loki. Why? Because that is a REAL person being insulted.

I remember someone (military personnel) tweeted at Tom Hiddleston that they didn't think it was cool that he was using the term "army" for his fans. He apologized and they parted amicably. But his FANS felt it necessary to attack and degrade this person. Which, I'm sorry, is not okay.

Less bashing of female characters is a good thing. But let's not pretend that this magically makes fandom a better place and that it hasn't gotten WORSE in other places (like doxxing, for instance).
