Requesting a game
(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 01:25 am (UTC)(link)My old housemate and I had a lot of fun playing the Halo series in co-op style. New housemate is willing to game with me but does not like shooting games. Her favourite games at the moment are Skyrim and Dragon Age, so something vaguely that like with a co-op setting would be great.
Help please?
Re: Requesting a game
(Well that and it's balls-hard)
Re: Requesting a game
(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 02:04 am (UTC)(link)I'm more looking for something with a decent narrative, that allows two people to work together to complete the storyline.
Re: Requesting a game
It's primarily a solo action/horror RPG with an emphasis on character builds and exploration. The way co-op works is that you summon another player through the use of summon stones (there's ways to get it so that you're summoning your buddy and not some random fucko.) Occasionally you will be "invaded" by another player seeking to kill you.
If that's not your cup of tea -- though it might be if you're playing by yourself -- you may want to try the Torchlight series, though only the 2nd has multiplayer.
[edit] I'm starting to think you might have misunderstood what I meant. I don't mean the fighting game series, I mean Demon's Souls (PS3 only)/Dark Souls 1 and 2 (PS3, 360, PC) and possibly Bloodborne (PS4 only and not out yet.) I call them the Souls series 'cuz it's less of a mouthful and I'd forgotten about the fighting games 'cuz I don't do fighters.
Re: Requesting a game
(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 05:53 am (UTC)(link)Demon's Souls looks like a lot of fun, but I don't think it would work, as we have only one PS3 in house and the co-op looks like it requires each player to be playing on their own and then 'summoned' into a host world rather than something you can play together from the start.
Torchlight 2 looks thus far perfect. Will have to see what housemate thinks.
Thanks.
Re: Requesting a game
Hammerwatch is fun, but I find it a bit difficult. The setting's a bit off from your description, since it's pixel graphics. But it is fun. Up to four player co-op.
I have not personally played them, but I've heard very good things about the Divinity games. Turn-based rpg.
Torchlight and Torchlight II as well. Not open-sandbox like Skyrim, but plotted dungeon crawler.
Possibly Magicka. I've not done multiplayer, but the singe-player is fun enough. No swords, only sorcery.
Re: Requesting a game
(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 06:08 am (UTC)(link)Can you play co-op Hammerwatch by LAN or is it only via the internet? Its wikipedia entry is rather empty.
And so I don't make the same mistake above, Divinity: Original Sin is the name of the game with the co-op? It looks like fun as well. I will add it to the list to show housemate.
Thanks.
Re: Requesting a game
And D:OS is the right Divinity game. One of my friends is head over heels for it at the moment.
(All those games are on Steam, as well!)

Other than that: If you like hack 'n' slay games, Champions of Norrath (not a great game, but funny when you play it together) has local co-op on the PS2, and Diablo 3 (several consoles) has local and online co-op. It's actually quite a bit of (mindless) fun.
"Sacred 3" has a co-op function, I think, so has "The Lord of the Rings: War in the North" and "Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom" but I haven't played them so I can't say anything about them.
You can also take a look on this site and see if there's anything relevant to your interests: http://www.co-optimus.com/
It's a very good resource for co-op games. You can filter by gaming system type of co-op, genre and all that.
