I didn't find Mamoru all that great (based solely on the anime) and the concept of it being Usagi's destiny to marry Mamoru somewhat creepy.

I didn't find Mamoru great in any incarnation, not the anime, not the manga, and not the new anime. I never hated him, but sometimes I wondered why Usagi even liked him so much.

The truth is as much time as we spend with Usagi and Mamoru, they give us more "it's destiny" then actual reasons why they like each other. By the time they get together without being tortured about it, it was kind of too late for me to care.

Seiya at least legitimately liked Usagi without needing to remember some past life to make the romance go forward. I loved the original Stars anime because I liked having a break from Usagi/Mamoru (and ChibiUsa too, who I like but who was featured way too heavily in Supers) and having other characters interact with Usagi and the other senshi.

THIS!

He really just seemed to like Usagi for Usagi. And since she gets called stupid and silly all the time it was nice to see someone just want to be around her for who she was.
