You're right, you don't have to memorize something to be a fan of it. (And I'm baffled at anyone who thinks you do.) Some people have a better memory than others, and some people have an excellent memory but probably couldn't quote two lines of their favorite film back at you. Brains are weird.

Personally, I can still do it with certain things (When I saw this secret I quoted Sam's speech at the end of Two Towers just to see if I could), but I'm probably not as accurate as I used to be. (I haven't tried in some time, but wow did I used to quote the LOTR films a lot. I can still remember a lot of it, including some of the elvish, but if you asked me to type the elvish I would be clueless.)

Is there an Elvish font?

You know...considering how massive and passionate Tolkien fandom is, there probably IS an Elvish font. (Lots of them, even.) I never thought to look for one.

I've never been good with languages (to my disappointment) so learning Elvish myself was out of the question, but it's a lovely language and I would love to be able to speak it or write in it.

There is. Somewhere there's a website for downloading fonts for free that had a pile of various styles of Tengwar including relatively simple styles, fancy ones like the style on the One Ring, a Teleri style where all the letters were swans. I downloaded a pile of them at one point. I probably still have them buried somewhere in my portable drive where I keep my back-ups.

But you do have to get proper lists for what sounds the letters stand for because they are not set on the keys that match them, and that's not even getting into things like where to put the vowel marks and learning how Sindarin and Quenya actually work.

(Sorry for going on, I have memories of the time back in '04 when I got into playing with tengwar.)

It never fails to impress me how enthusiastic and thorough fandom is.

That said, I just don't have the patience for something like this, even if I had the ability to learn. (Which I totally do not.)

It pleases me to know that these things exist, though.

Back then I knew someone who was running lessons online for Sindarin, but I, like you, didn't have the brain for it. At the most I cobble together bits from my Quenya wordlists when I make up names for RP. I probably don't do it right.

Look up "Tengwar font" on Google and it'll probably come up with Elvish fonts.
