Yep, and a lot of European countries were already going that direction. :( And it's just going to create a vicious cycle where the minority/Muslim population are going to feel alienated and ostracized. leading some to find appeal in things like extremist activities.

It feels like they're not such a minority anymore.
I'm not going to say where I live, but I have to admit I'm scared of them. A lot of people probably think that's racist, but how am I supposed to tell apart the normal ones from the fundamentalist ones? It's not fair. But that's the way it is.

I never said it was. And I don't like it either, but I cannot help feeling threatened in my own country. I do trust people I consider my friends and I have a few muslim friends. But how can I be sure about all the others?

If you condemn the Muslim population in your country and contribute to the spreading Islamaphobia, you're making the situation worse by instigating a divide and creating hatred between Muslims and non-Muslims in your country.

How are they supposed to know you're one of the good ones, and not one of the ones who will set fire to their mosques?

Right now there's more islamophobic terrorism in Francia than terrorism by islamic extremists, after all.

Seriously, this isn't just a problem one demographic has. For any demographic on the face of this earth, there will be some people who behave absolutely abominably. There are probably some Muslims who are scared of you for the exact same reason.

People just forget that there were Muslims in the Paris grocery store who were subjected to the attacks too.

*sighs* Yeah. Like, some people act like atheists have it hard, but let me tell you, I would WAY rather be an atheist than a Muslim. They get so much shit.

Except in America there are municipalities that specifically exclude atheists from political involvement. I've never heard of anything like that regarding Muslims. The only advantage atheists have in regards to discrimination is low visibility.

You do know that the "fundamentalist" ones make up a very tiny portion of the Muslim population, and most muslims don't agree or like them either? Right...?

You know, I always find it funny that Muslims are alway getting blamed for their extremists, but the KKK and just relgious bigots in general, can do whatever horrible crimes and discrimination they please, and yet I never see anyone lumping all Christians together and labeling them as a hate group or generalizing them as a whole.
Hmm, I wonder why...

Yes, and only a very small percentage of men rapes and abuses women, but somehow, "not all men" is a bad thing.

I mean, sure, it's not fair. But if people belong to a group and parts of that group do something shitty, other people tend to hold the whole group accountable for it. That's just how it is, but it's definitely not an isolated problem that only Muslims face.

Commonwealth countries are edging more and more towards the far right as well. Australia and Canada have far right parties in power right now.

Countries like Japan also seem to keep going towards nationalism and the right too.

I work for the APS and always watch the election coverage. When it became clear the LNP had won I just lay down and started sobbing.
