I had smoked salmon that tasted like wood once as a kid. And spent years thinking I hated salmon because it all tasted like wood.

I was wrong. Very gloriously wrong.

:( That's terrible. Salmon is one of my favorite foods, and it doesn't even require much to be tasty.

Salmon is actually one of the few fishes I don't like (along with catfish). I've had supposedly good salmon, I just really don't like the flavor.

I can sorta understand that. Some flavors don't work for people. Everyone's different.
