Re: Whatcha Reading, FS?

I'm reading 'The Dark Water' by David Pirie, which is one in a series of books about a young Arthur Conan Doyle solving mysteries with Joseph Bell. Enjoying it so far, but...can't think of too many things to say about it at the moment.

I'm also reading 'Ancillary Sword' by Ann Leckie. It's the sequel to 'Ancillary Justice,' which I love half to death, but so far it's been a bit disappointing. 'Ancillary Justice' is subtle; this book is not, and that's getting me down.

Oh, you've made it to The Dark Water! Awesome ^_^ I hope you enjoy the book. It has its weaknesses - perhaps more of them than the first two - but the climax scene is really something special. And it's Pirie's own favourite, as it happens.

Wellllll...I made a bit of an error and started reading it before 'The Night Calls,' because for some reason, I thought it was the middle book. So I'm out of order, and there are some references that I'm not getting, but that's all right. It'll all be cleared up in due time.

But, weaknesses or not, I'm finding a lot to enjoy about it. In particular, I love folklore, so the bits about the witch of Dunwich are interesting and fascinating to me (and now I know where your livestream name comes from, ha!).
