In all seriousness, I don't see why they wanted a beta but not want criticism and ways to fix up their writting. I'd rather have someone point to me (politely) what's wrong with my writting instead of having me drive myself into a ditch.

It's a beta in name only if there's no criticism involved, and nothing learned from it.

I'd be much more ashamed of the whole world seeing my stupid mistakes after I've posted. I never catch them all, no matter how many times I read my fics.

Yeah, same here. I'd probably be really embarrased if I posted a story and THEN caught any mistake later.
