Re: The Hobbit movie....

Pretty much what everyone one else said -- most book fans have some level of disappointment, most fans in general would change something, but casual fans or new fans seem to be happy (or happier at least).

In general (always exceptions) book fans liked the first movie for being more faithful to the book but casual fans thought it was too slow. Book fans disliked the second film strenuously for all the liberties it took and all the stuff that was left out. Casual fans enjoyed the action and seemed to be more positive about it. The third film seems to be fairly well received on the whole. I feel like, personally, after DoS burned me, I had the correct expectations for BoFA and so could enjoy it as it is.

You may find you enjoy the Hobbit films once you can disassociate them from LOTR. I think most fans stopped comparing the two brands pretty soon after AUJ because the projection values seemed to have slipped. I know I no longer compare the two, since Hobbit is so vastly different. This vastly helped my enjoyment of BoFA, though I still have many problems with the movies.
