I scrolled by too fast and thought it might be Rose from Rose Petal Place--I never run into people who remember that one. (although in fairness, my niece found some of my old books this summer and they are pretty awful--preachy, and yet frequently missing the point, like maybe the Evil Spider Lady might be less antagonistic if you didn't tell her how ugly she was all the time).
