Okay, so practicality was a stupid thing to bring up.
SCREW LOGIC. ♥

Manly, yes, until you add the LIGHT GREEN to the light pink and brown/whatever and you end up looking like you found your clothes in the back of the Easter Bunny's closet. A rather sexy Easter Bunny, if he's wearing tight leathery pants, but the Easter Bunny nonetheless.

My roommate gets to hear me nitpick about this all the time, but...

Leg armor. Every fucking person has leg armor. You know what leg armor is good for? Mounted combat. You know what doesn't happen in FF12? Mounted combat. In general, leg armor for infantry is silly because it's heavy and cumbersome, making the wearer slower, less agile, and more clumsy.

You know what would be useful for everyone though? Breastplates. Or maybe some pauldrons and vambraces. You know what you don't see too much of in FF12? Upper body armor. Hell, Vaan's running around in his battle bra and bare arms, and Ashe is wearing god knows what (a "miniskirt", heels, and cuisses...really?). Basch at least wears one (singular) pauldron while showing off his manly chest and pot holder, while Balthier is frilly and Fran is doing her best to look like a sex doll.

TL;DR: FF12 wardrobe design looks cool but makes absolutely zero practical sense.

The thing I always complained about?
Everyone and their mothers have like...metal groin protecters? That they wear outside their clothing. I don't even know. But I just was like, WTF LAWLZ. Does that count as leg armor?

At least groinguards make some sense. It's very possible to get stabbed in the groin/inner thigh area (ouch), and it doesn't hinder mobility that much to protect it (historically with a short mail skirt).

Oh, and I forgot Reddas. Hot pants. And not a shred of armor on the dude. I don't know what to say. Rassler's pretty well-armored, except for the whole leaving a gaping hole in the middle of the breastplate. And he's not wearing an arming doublet or shirt of any sort underneath all that armor. Dude, that shit chafes.

Overall, the only people that pass are Vossler and the Judge Magisters. Penelo, too, is actually dressed decently appropriately for her role (plus bonus leather pauldrons and bracers!), despite wearing clunky polo greaves.

In short, I nitpick too much about this. And have too much of an obsession with medieval armor. >_>
