Yeah, I don't think I'm better, really. I'm just someone who has liked Sondheim for most of my life, and Sweeney Todd in particular. I know the shows well and I used to sing myself, so I at least have a little bit of that background.

And it just... it makes me sad. They could have done lovely things with it, and to me it just sounded dumbed down and half-assed (except for Toby, he was awesome). I don't object to the changes, even, it's changing things without doing better and more interesting things instead. :( Agreed on the whole star-power angle too. The unknowns were all more bearable than the big names in the cast.

Same. We have the same birthday, actually :D I share a birthday with the best and worst of Broadway - Sondheim and Webber.
I've seen Sweeney several times and been IN it twice. I just...I feel bad for being so incredibly biased, but I can't even bring myself to give it a chance and try. I'm sad and disgusted. Sondheim music is too amazing to not use true vocal talent if you can afford it.
