You have to keep in mind that an adaption is exactly that. It won't be exactly like the real thing.

Take Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings for example, plus all the cherished Disney movies.

The movies are all so different from the original books, stories, plays what have you that they are two completely different things which only share the main body of information.

Considering the cast and the lack of vocal training, the movie was amazing. I expected it to be a bit longer, and I am sad that they cut out the middle Anthony/Johanna romance, but I still enjoyed it.

nonononononononono! it must be the same, the exact same, the exactly exact exact same with no deviation due to interpretation or the fact that it needs editing to be a reasonable length movie, or adjusted because the technology isn't there to handle the special effects or that a movie has a budget it needs to maintain because it still has to make money...

it needs to be exactly the same or it's a ruination of the original creators dreams! and it kills their puppy! and pisses in their wheaties!

I really hope that's sarcasm, because I have never seen a film adaptation that is the same as its original poroduct.

Sondheim was right there with Burton during the development of the movie.

Writers know that when their work is going to be adapted to film it gets maimed, and the most they can do is be there for the process to make sure they don't cut anything vitally necessary.

If the creator of the original really cared that much he/she wouldn't approve the screenplay and make it on their own.
