Dude. Who would you be putting off here. That's like 'PLAY ME' bait right there, calling it a dating sim srpg. Also, everyone I come into contact about this game calls it that :U

That's exactly why I bought it too. To make fucking magical warrior babies with my waifu/husbando of choice, and use my shipping powers of pair-the-rest to make more.

Is this new though? Dudes love Dragon Quest and Persona.

Wait...since when do the DQ games have any (player-directed) dating aspects?

Haha, I meant to write Dragon Age not Quest, but technically there is DQ5!

Text: I’m still amazed that they managed to sell what’s essentially a dating game to a mainly male audience.

I’ve waited a year and a half to say this. I didn’t want to put anyone off giving it a chance. This is such a funny game anyway, but I love seeing guys’ reactions when they marry Chrom and OMG they find they love it!

This was my first dating game as well. No others have measured up to it although I’ve tried some othrs now. More crossover genre rpgs like this please, developers.

Yeah, getting to pair up all your characters and have kids was definitely a great feature I'd like to see more of in RPG's. I don't know why you assume it wouldn't appeal to male players though. Girls aren't the only ones who play dating sims. And there is a small degree of eugenics going on to create the perfect kids.

Also, you only get paired with Chrom if you play as female Robin. Unfortunately there is no same-sex marriages, because if there was I would have paired female Robin with Tharja.

And also Kjelle with Severa thanks to that one DLC.

Aren't males the target demo for (most) dating games, though? Unless you mean 'guys who normally despise dating sims,' I don't see why the hook-up aspect would turn guys away specifically.

Yeah, this. Unless it's Yaoi to begin with, NEET basement dwellers wanting their moe girl tend to be the people who buy these.

There are different demographics, maybe OP only knows of the otome genre.

And it's not like you can only marry male characters in the game, there are also tons of beautiful girls to choose from.

I actually think the female options are a lot better than the male options. I really only found Lon'qu, Gaius, Owain, and Inigo to be attractive. Whereas every single one of the girls are attractive.

I hope this mechanic stays around for future Fire Emblem games. I'll buy every damn one of them if it does.

Most dating sims are for men. I am confused as to why you'd think they'd find that aspect off-putting.

Thank you for calling the game that. I have this friend who keeps whining that she doesn't "get" shipping, how fandom disappoints her because everything is about shipping and how lonely and isolated she feels for never ever shipping anything. Also, shippers are annoying and has she mentioned how special she is for never never never ever shipping anything?

Yet while she was playing this game she completely spammed her twitter and tumblr with a constant stream of who she should pair up, who was cute together, who she paired up and what became of it and who she could have shipped paired up instead. It got so extreme and annoying that I had to blacklist all keywords having to do with this game.

So yeah friend, keep whining about those annoying stupid shippers while flooding everyone with the ships from your weird people breeding game. You don't look like a hypocrite at all.

I love when games do weird things to gender stereotypes. Like how Team Fortress 2 got a bunch of guys obsessed with fashionable hats.

As someone said, in Japan, the "dating sim" aspect is not going to raise any eyebrows among guys. Though I laughed a the pink bubbly background when Chrom confessed his love to my avatar, I think it's mostly just a bit weird to a Western audience (male and female alike). Not that the game was unsuccessful here, I'm pretty sure it did okay? The guy at Gamestop raved to me about how awesome it was when I bought it.

I'm just annoyed at the lack of gay relationships. You can't even get two same-sex people to S class. :-/ Yeah yeah, children and all, but I have zero interest in fictional hetero relationships, which made the pink bubbly confessions a thing I had to endure to get good stats for my characters.

Male gamers liking dating sims is odd, since when?
