and by "people" I assume you mean the academy members who openly admit they don't even bother watching the animated category and just vote based on which 1) is foreign and therefore ~artsy~, or 2) default to disney.

you can debate whether the lego movie deserves an oscar, but let's not pretend the people who are nominating know absolutely anything about the movies they're ranking. or whether a nomination grants a movie in the animated category any sort of notoriety.

No, I mean the people who enjoyed the Lego movie and expected it to win an Oscar. I'm not saying the Oscar nomination process is flawless or even rational, but it doesn't make sense to expect a movie that doesn't fit their (admittedly limited and biased) scope of what is award worthy to get a nomination.

Kind of like how you don't have to agree with how Crofts awards their ribbons to show dogs and you can think it's bullshit, but it'd be silly of you to stomp your feet about how your beloved mutt didn't win a blue ribbon.

except a mutt wouldn't be eligible for a dog show award, and any animated film is eligible so your analogy makes little sense
