(Anonymous) 2015-01-24 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)We saw how well direct-contact 'guidance' worked between them with the Occlumency lessons in book 5, productivity was not the result. So it seems weird to believe Rowling killed him off so Harry would have no adults to guide him through killing Voldemort. Snape would never have been the adult to provide this guidance even if he'd lived. I'm not convinced the only reason he was able to do so by dying isn't because that's the only way he would give Harry a real reason to trust him by handing over the full truth of everything. I'm not sure an alive Snape wouldn't have just been all, "The only way Voldemort can die is if you let him kill you first. Off to it, then, go!"
