I'm a BNF in a medium-sized fandom and I love finding new authors. Most of the time they freak out when I review them and in several cases, it encourages them to write more, which is exactly what I want them to do. :D

I don't understand why being a BNF is such a bad thing in other people's eyes, I just want my fandom to be happy and get bigger - is that a crime?

That's very awesome of you to do =D I think it has to do with that a BNF is someone with a stamp of quality; and so them thinking something is quality... they can tell. Oops, rambling! XD

I agree with your latter statement as well. I think being a BNF is something said BNFs should be proud of. And exploit to make their fandom more awesome =D

The reason many people hate BNFs is that as yourself, most BNFs don't even reliaze it whn they're saying something so conceited it's bordering on offensive.

You might want to fix that.

arrogance? elitism? egoism? these are just a few things many BNFs suffer from in fandoms. when a BNF becomes the driver of the fandom, that's not necessarily a good thing.

when a BNF seeks to drive out those in fandom who disagree with them, that's definitely not a good thing.

when a BNF forgets that they were once on the bottom of the heap and treats others as being worth nothing more than mud beneath the soles of their feet - I think you get the picture.

if a BNF is all "me me me look at me and see me and talk about me", if a BNF has attained this status just to get more reviews for their fics...
