Ah, I just randomly snapped at the thought that someone feels that they can't comment just because they feel they don't have enough status or something. I wasn't meaning that all BNFs worried about their rep. I'm sorry that it came across like that. I'm sure some are though when I see 'half my fl would lynch me..blahblah' secrets.

But I do think it's silly to put so much value on the comments of BNFs. If the comment is constructive/heartfelt and you know it, it shouldn't matter who wrote it.

Um, I already DO comment. What did I say that indicates that I don't? I just think it'd be nice to be a BNF so that when I comment, it makes people happy and encourages them to write more. I agree with you that constructive or heartfelt comments are great no matter who they come from, but doesn't it make you happy when someone you admire tells you you're doing a good job?

It was the wording. When you say:
"I want to be a BNF so that I can comment on fics by unpopular writers and make them feel special and appreciated,"
it sounds quite different to saying you want "to be a BNF so that when I comment, it makes people happy..." (own emphasis)

The first really did sound as though you felt that you couldn't comment on fics by unpopular writers even though you wanted to.
I would have responded quite differently to the second version.
