What was the first fanfic you ever wrote?

(Anonymous) 2015-01-25 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
And, if you shared it to anyone, how was it received?

When I was about 12 my big brother made a forum dedicated to Dragonball Z, where people discussed DBZ and my brother published his own fanfic. So I wrote one too. It was about Frieza and Cell having to work as cashiers in a supermarket, after being banished from Hell for fighting. It was very well-liked, but then again my audience was made up of preteen boys, friends of my brother and I. Because of the good reception, I wrote two more chapters of the thing.

X-Files. Since it was technically for a high school writing course, I filed the serial numbers off, but it was a damn X-files genfic and everyone knew it. I've never published it anywhere - no copy remains - but it actually wasn't too bad, considering. Was about them trying to catch a serial killer that collected eyes because he believed he could collect dreams, and his next target was a girl who was rumored to 'see' psychic phenomena.

I feel like I should take another whack at it someday and see what I can rebuild. :P

Sailor Moon OC fic. I created Sailor Earth (along with approximately three million other people, I'm sure) and she fought alongside the rest of the Sailor Senshi. It was terrible. |D

A Teen Titans fic about the team attempting to revive Terra after the events of the second season. I only posted the first chapter before chickening out and never sharing anything for a long time, but the response was pretty friendly. I just couldn't handle any response at all.

The first fic I ever wrote I read to my brother because he was the only one in fandom with me. This was before we had the internet and wrote some self-insert fic on notebook paper. I even drew my OCs. I think I mostly tortured him with it, but I do remember sitting him down and making him listen to me read some of it.It was for Digimon 01 and my self-insert was ust bffs with Izzy and eventually dated Matt. Also, there was a lot of Tai character bashing. Lol, I love Tai now so I dunno what my deal was back then. I guess he was getting in the way of my OC's relationship with Matt. My brother and I both hated Tai though. I wish I could remember what was up with that.

The first fic I posted (Digimon slash, Izzy/Ken) got a few comments saying I was good writer and that they liked the story. The website is long dead, so that fic is lost. Wish I could find it again.

According to fanfiction.net, it was an Inuyasha song fic to the song "I Need Her" from one of the Swan Princess movies.

...I'm kind of afraid to reread it, honestly, but it had two favs, so that means something, right?

There was that Zorro anime series when I was a kid (Kaiketsu Zorro, I think). I was really young and wrote a fanfic with a Gary Stu for that show. Nobody has ever seen it. Nobody ever shall.

A cracky PWP for Saint Seiya. When I first joined the fandom I was under the impression that fanfic was for fun, that shipping was a funny transgression from canon, and that sex was hilarious. So. OOC porn for shit and giggles! I was 14. Now with the hindsight I'm sure it was really bad, but some people were amused and told me so.

A short story about Scully explaining the balance of a chemical equation to Mulder to tell him why she thought this case was probably nothing. It was extra credit for a high school chemistry class, and the teacher thought it was goofy but the information I gave was sound so I got the points.

The first true fanfic (where I didn't file off all the serial numbers) was probably Pern. It has never seen the light of day; much praise for that.

I think my first fanfic was a really short and pretty pointless (although I didn't think it was back then obv) oneshot for CSI: original flavor. I'm pretty sure I posted it somewhere though I'm not sure where. It might have been in a German NCIS forum because that was my main fandom home back in the day. I got about a handful of comments which is more than it probably deserved.

I think one of my earliest fanfictions was in the Weiß Kreuz fandom. I think it was a birthday fanfic for a friend with the Aya/Ken pairing. Pretty sure I posted it on a few platforms, including an old yaoi archive in my country's language. It was fairly well received but ... I shudder to think of it now. It has since been purged from the internet (that archive I mentioned doesn't even exist anymore).

The very first try was a terrible self-insert mess for X-men, that I showed to a friend, but didn't share online.

The first fic I shared online was a short angsty Hound-centric piece. ( Transformers G1.) It got a few faves and encouraging comments.

Highlander: The Series. It's still in an online archive someplace, I was mortified to discover.

God, I think it was a Hudson Brothers story back in the mid-70s-- they had a children's variety show for about a year. I was just learning to print, so it was short and heavily illustrated. Of course, I didn't know the term "fanfic" until about thirty years later!

I wrote an alternate/extended ending to The Light in the Forest. In it, True Son met up with a bunch of OCs (who were all raised by the Lenape like him, and who'd had to leave their adoptive families for some reason or another) and they founded their own village together.

It was actually an assignment for class, believe it or not. It seemed normal at the time, but looking back I always laugh about that English instructor who made us all write AU fanfic.

I didn't know fanfic was a thing until about 1997 or 98, when I first got home internet. I'd already been writing original work for twelve years or so and was kind of a lit snob who thought fanfic was really weird and uncreative and didn't take any effort at all (lolol it's hard as fuck). There was no way in hell I'd ever write any, of course. Much later, I got into Ben/Locke and couldn't resist the idea of writing exactly the kind of story I wanted to read about them, so I wrote the first of what became a double prologue for a long fixit I'm still working on. It was 2009 and I was a mere child of 35, lol. It's very well-loved, and the whole process helped me get over being afraid to share my writing with anyone for years before that.

Pre-internet (mid 80s) Duran Duran slash fic (don't think it was too explicit) when I was around 14-15, which my mum found and destroyed it and berated me for. I didn't write anything, again, outside school assignments, until I was in my 20s. Of course, at the time I wrote it, I had no idea that things like fandom and fanfic were things that other people actually did as I lived in a very rural area.

So, when I discovered the internet in 1996--and thus fandom/fanfic (first fandom was The Sentinel, not D2) it was awesome and I started writing again.

There was a contest on TV Tropes to write fanfic, and I entered with a fic exploring the backstory of a minor character in Mass Effect 2 (that smuggler whose life was saved by the Rachni queen.) The judges really praised how I made the Rachni feel alien, but the smuggler was pretty much a blob of generic angst.

On the other hand, there was a scoring category for how understandable your story was to folks who didn't already know the source material, and I was literally the only entrant who got more than one point in it from any of the judges. I wound up winning the contest!

Neopets fic about my non-neopet-based furry ass mercenary OC who used to be the Dark Faerie queen's best soldier until she refused to kill the Shoyru who became her pet/best friend. I even drew pictures of them together, and designed this totally elaborate magic fight stick the OC stole from the queen.

I shared it with buddies I made on the site over pm, and they thought it was so cool. But we were children. We don't know shit.

I wrote my first fanfic when I was 12, and it was about Titanic. Terrible modern-day childhood AU. *cringe* I'm kind of glad that I don't have a copy saved anywhere.

I submitted it to a fan site (whose archive has since been taken down) and it was actually well-received. Never finished it, but I probably would've dropped it sooner if a couple of people hadn't expressed interest. I guess that gives you an idea of the level of quality of most of the fics there, haha.

A Gargoyles fic that involved Brooklyn (who was my favorite) getting some kind of special magic that didn't require use of a conduit the way most other magic in the Gargoyles universe did -- basically, so I could just make up any spells I needed him to have at any given time to make the story work. It was the first of a massive pile of Gargoyles fic that I wrote all throughout high school (I did eventually flesh out the magic thing into a whole proper system with rules and everything that I may use for something original someday). I never shared any of it online, though I used to print everything I wrote out and kept all of it in a giant folder under my bed. I'm pretty sure I still have it actually, though I haven't re-read any of it in an age.

I was nine or ten.

It was a Banjo Kazooie/Pokemon/Yu-Gi-Oh/Prydain Chronicles crossover.

Still not sure exactly what kind of crack my younger self was on.
