Sometimes that doesn't work, unfortunately. I've had a couple friends over the years that just wouldn't let it go if you said you didn't like something.

"But you have to watch the first 12 episodes and then it really takes off! Oh, you watched those? Well you have to watch til the end of the season, and then it all comes together!"

It's amazing how many FS boil down to, ' My friends are horrible people w/ no respect for my ability to form my own opinions. In response, I have chosen to be MORE horrible.'

Right? And there's so much that's just "I can't do X because my friends are not nice to me," and it's like THEN GET BETTER FUCKING FRIENDS.

It's like people here think you can never ever let go of a friendship, no matter how shitty it is, OR ELSE.

I can think of a few scenarios (not necessarily for this secret):

1. Friends really aren't that bad. Everything is worse/better on the internet and secret maker is just feeling a little petty at the moment. Everybody has those moments.
2. Friends really *are* that bad, but secret maker has a hard time making friends or they've been friends for years so it is hard to let go.
3. Friends really aren't that bad. Secret maker is the horrible one and the friends are the only one who will tolerate them.

Seriously. Why are you friends with people who don't respect your decisions?

Argh. I used to run into that. Now that I'm closer to fifty than forty, however, I just reply, "I'm getting old and I don't have the time left to spend on media I'm not enjoying." And then I firmly change the subject.

It definitely takes practice, though.
