It depends on the system. Some systems are more aware than others. For instance, ours was very much aware, she just didn't think it was REAL. Madison Clell, on the other hand, describes being deep in denial and hugely taken aback when her shrink broke the news. The Troops for Truddi Chase (AKA: When Rabbit Howls) seem to have had mixed awareness.
