Well...yes, that was my point. Many people view rapists as being a certain kind of person (you know, the greasy drifter who lurks in dark alleys) and because they view rapists as monsters, they're often less willing to convict "nice guy" rapists and, as you say, they get off scott free

Upon re-reading your comment, I can't tell if you were disagreeing or agreeing with me. If you were just elaborating on my comment then I apologize

i was disagreeing, but i think we also agree on the principle. i consider everyone who rapes to be all together in one category and a big part of why i wish i could just not treat them as human is because i hate how people treat the "upstanding" ones like they aren't disgusting fuckbuckets because they don't fit the stereotype of a rapist and i wish they would see it like i do. they are monsters to me because i think raping somebody makes you a monster. no matter who you are.

I agree.

I also think people can be monsters, and when we imply they can't be by saying monsters aren't people, we start to blind ourselves.

Rapists are human. Murderers are human. Hitler and Stalin were human.

Human beings do horrible things. And when you pretend that it's only "monsters" who are in a different category, you open the door for more horrible things to happen.
