I have no idea, I never read the original book. If Burroughs wrote that in, I'd be bothered by it too. At least in the Disney film, Tarzan was speaking correct but simple English. Erik was talking at too high a level and it broke the momentum of the fic for me.

I know Tarzan was a genius in the original books. Three weeks seems absurdly fast, even so, but I don't know how fast ERB made it out to be. Not that ERB was known for realism.
