DeForest Kelley was such a lovely man. I too lament his passing -- he was a treasure.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-28 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
I would have loved to meet him too!

(Anonymous) 2015-01-28 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
There are two celebs I would give anything to meet and I'm too late: Deforest Kelley and Davy Jones. I know exactly how you feel.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-28 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
lol he's been dead for 15 years.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-28 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
I love him, but this comment made me laugh. I'm assuming OP just got into Star Trek and didn't know about it?

Ah, OP, I'm sorry you didn't get to meet him. He was wonderful. His stories were funny and sweet and he was so gracious. It was an amazing experience.

Clearly I've been making and submitting secrets in my sleep again...

Worst part is, I can't even make a pilgrimage to his grave. :/

(Anonymous) 2015-01-28 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Oh no, can I ask why not?

He was cremated and they scattered his ashes in the ocean, so there is no grave...

What a wonderful secret OP. I'm sorry you won't get to meet him, but maybe you could meet one of his costars or something and tell them how much you loved his character and if they have any nice memories of him they'd like to share?

Agreed, a lovely secret. He had such a gentle touch about him. Always loved that character.

He truly seems like he was a class act.

He's missed. As is Jimmy Doohan, who defines class act.

Every so often I forget that Doohan's dead, and then I get sad all over again. He was an IRL badass!

He really was. And he never seemed frustrated with being essentially a one hit wonder. He loved Star Trek and being on the show and what it stood for and he always presented himself as so grateful to fans. He was a super endearing dude.

a good friend of mine got to meet both of them at one of the cons. He said they were both really nice.

I am envious. The only Trek actor I've met is Walter Koenig and he was a super cool dude. I wish I had been older at the time I met him because my memories have faded.

Text: I was so devastated to find out that he is no longer alive. He’s the Star Trek cast member that I would most want to meet. I feel like my ‘bucket list’ will never be complete because I’ll never get to meet him and tell him how much I loved his character. (And maybe give him some treats for his lovely pets.)

(Anonymous) 2015-01-28 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
I too am sad I won't get to met him. I collect autographs from Star Trek actors and he is the only one from the original cast I don't have. He seemed like such a sweet and wonderful man.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-28 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
I totally get that OP. I'm the same way about Cary Grant and Theodore Sturgeon.

I've been fortunate enough to have the chance to have met all of the main TOS crew except Nimoy at cons (though I've not entirely given up hope on Nimoy - and technically Shatner wasn't at a con, but an equine event).

I was quite young - probably pre-teen, iirc - when I got my few moments of 'Hello, please sign my photo' - but I can tell you that Dee Kelley was quite charming to a young, starstruck girl. Big smile, friendly laugh and very disarming. It was awesome. Jimmy Doohan was the same (though I was so nervous meeting him that I could barely get my name out for him to sign. He had to ask me to repeat it twice...) The rest of the cast were wonderful - but Scotty & Bones were 'my' characters, which made it all the more memorable.

I remember being terribly pissed off that he didn't get a mention during the Academy memorial that year.

I remember how sad I was when he died. :(
