Right, but those stereotypes and ideas are associated with you because of how you look.

Appearance is the basis for racism -- stereotypes are just PART of racism.

Not... really. Appearance isn't the basis for racism from a psychological perspective. You get the same effect between groups of same-race students just by assigning different status as part of experiments.

Appearance is the excuse for racism, the underlying mechanism is totally different.

I mean that appearance is the discriminating factor.

If a white guy acts like a "stereotypical" black guy, he's not going to experience racism because he doesn't LOOK like a black guy.

A black man who completely eschews any and all of the stereotypes associated with his race, though, might still encounter people who treat him as such based solely on his appearance.
