Yeah. Canon!Holmes seemed to see people as puzzles to be solved first, but he was also capable of compassion (letting people who had committed crimes for what he saw as good reasons go, etc.) and he never struck me as being needlessly rude.

And considering the license the creators have taken with this particular adaptation, claiming a fetish for authenticity really is kind of silly.
