Yeah I was a big Dahl fan as a kid, maybe that played into the dislike I had for the first movie. (Little hipster even back then haha.) I get such baffled looks when I say I like Burton's remake better, (even though I think Gene Wilder is the best film Wonka.) The remake did such a wonderful job with Dahl's songs which are really some of the best parts of the book for me. I can't forgive the old one for leaving them out in favor of fuckin' Oompa Loompa Oompity Do.

I actually have a great Oompa Loompa song story.

So, way back in undergrad, one day I'm at my desk working when someone knocks on my door. I open up, and there are three guys I know, standing eagerly with their hands behind their backs.

As I blink at them, they pull helium balloons out from behind their backs, huff the helium, and start dancing and singing the Oompa Loompa song.

It was pretty glorious.
