My mother lives next door to a park, and in that park is a truly massive community of moles. She's done everything she can to block them from tunneling into her garden, and failing that, she paid an exterminator repeatedly to get rid of them. Now he refuses to work for her because he says he's just wasting her money, so she kills them herself. (I do have to wonder how stupid they must be to keep moving into tunnels that have asphyxiated mole corpses in them.)

Honestly, I like moles, so I think the whole thing is kind of fucked up, but if she values her garden that much, I'm not sure how to stop her.

From memory, they're territorial. So by killing the current occupant, she's essentially advertising that the burrows are available for new tenants.

She might have more luck with a castor oil treatment which makes their food taste bad to them.

I don't think I could kill anything that small and furry.
