Fleas are just a year-round problem in a climate where it doesn't really get cold enough to kill them for most of the year. Most of the time I deal with it by medicating my animals routinely (or whenever I see flea dirt on them) and not living in places with carpeting. I vacuum nearly every three days so that usually takes care of it.

The one time I lived in a place with carpeting and got a minor infestation I dealt with it by washing all the bedclothes and cutting up one of those awful, poison-covered flea collars to stick it in my vacuum bag. I guess my advice would be never use those on your pets, but they work like a charm to kill the bastards efficiently without having to spread more poison around.

Yeah, luckily regular frontline treatment, washing, and vacuuming works for me too.

I don't understand people who leave their pets with fleas just because "they're not inside so it doesn't matter".
