Enh, back when I lived in the Northeast, there was this old guy who was obviously a few slices short a loaf. If he saw me, he liked to come up to me and blather about whatever was on his mind--paper towels, JFK, whatever. He'd do it for a couple minutes, not really requiring much in the way of conversation, just nods and 'uh huhs,' and then he would be done and go on his way, obviously satisfied with his social interaction.

I have a pretty hair-trigger creepdar, and this guy honestly never gave me the creeps. He stood a little too close, but he never tried to touch me, never said anything untoward. Just blather for five minutes on paper towels and then on his merry way. I got the sense that he wanted to interact with other humans and just wasn't sure HOW.

Honestly, I'd take his eccentric, batty self over the creepers any day of the week.

Oh, me too. He definitely wasn't the sexual-stalker-creeper kind.

Yeah. I honestly found Mr. Paper Towels kind of refreshing for that; we've had a MAJOR problem with creepers in the past. Also, he's a very convenient living example when I run into those chuckleheads who like to pretend that 'creepy' is a slur against socially awkward men.

I'm like, uh, no. Mr. Paper Towels was AWKWARD. I honestly am hard-pressed to imagine someone who could be more awkward than him. But he wasn't CREEPY. And I have known plenty of socially adjusted creepers that make me want to run screaming for the horizon. It's totally different phenomenae.
