The argument is that artificial turf is easier to keep nice than real grass. In the wet parts of Canada where the tournent would be taking place, it's not the worst argument in the world -- the field turns into a swap, and injuries are far more likely simply because your cleats don't grip the way they're designed to. But artificial turf is slick as well, and there are little pellets in the turf hurt ehen you go down.

So female players were suing due to gender discrimination because all the men's matches are played on grass fields.
