I get writing fics that are inspired by a song as I listen to music myself when I write to get into the mood.

But I don't care for traditional songfics that have the lyrics of the song copy pasted into the story. I might read them if the premise sounds interesting but I always skip the lyrics, so they might as well not be there for all I care.

Mm, there's a world of difference between "being inspired by a song", and "basing your story on a song". I think a lot of songfic writers haven't yet worked that out yet, though - often the lyrics they shove in bear little or no apparent relation to the story they're telling.

yeah, i've definitely been inspired by songs, or used lyrics as titles, but i don't actually put them into the text

Same here. I've written fic that was inspired by a song, but never felt the need to incorporate lyrics into it.
