I guess it depends on fandom? Songfics mostly seem to be committed by teenagers, so maybe fandoms with older fanbases don't suffer from them the same way.

I'm in at least one fandom where 'High School AU Taylor Swift Songfics' are pretty much a thing all on their own. (I gave up reading fics in that fandom at all unless they were specifically recommended to me.)
