Wait, Homestuck is no longer in its heyday? I thought it was like, the fandom train that never stopped chugging!

There was a year long hiatus, so a lack of official content does hamper things a bit (still big though). Folk move on to other things, and some don't come back.

Plus, aside from official forums, reddit and tumblr maybe, there weren't too many places to centralize the fandom in stable spots. The memes mentioned undergo moves or disappear, none of the several chans exist, and things like /hsg/ had to move elsewhere for lack of actual content (but it was shitty anyway).

Ah okay! Thanks. Homestuck is one of those things a lot of folks I know have to block on tumblr, so I kinda assumed it was still going strong. It's not my thing myself, so I don't know very much about it.

Yeah, LJ was dying when Homestuck was at its peak and it never really took root there (other than the kinkmeme) afaik.

A lot of fandom was moving away from standard blog/comment platforms too, so it makes sense to me that lj/dw isn't the go-to unless you want to make a meme, and that it took off on more feed-like places where every day means new content to find or share.

Just went to check the memes I had bookmarked, so at least my old bookmarks are probably okay :D

I honestly have no idea since I don't really pay attention to the fandom as a whole. It went on a very long hiatus (officially termed a Gigapause) recently and is nearing its finale, slowly and imo a bit weirdly (but then the whole thing is pretty weird so idk)

But a couple years ago it was updating daily or almost daily and had a huge, vocal following. Not sure whether or not the latter is still the case but the former definitely isn't. And the kink meme has died down quite a bit.

Yeah. The reason I never got into Homestuck was that the update schedule and archive size really intimidated me. I can keep up with comics that update once a week, tops. After that, I just get left behind, and that's with READING.

I seriously don't know how Hussie managed that kind of brutal schedule for so long.

Well it's slowed down a lot now...but you'd have a lot of catching up to do!

On the other hand, it's ending soon (??), and if you're the kind of person who likes to read/watch things when they're done, you might have a go at it. It's a slog at the beginning but it gets amazing. Just don't expect to do it all at once. It will take a while.
