20 or 90? Not between 20-90? Mine are not usually longer than an hour.

DA

The advice is anything less than 20 minutes, or anything over 90.

If you wake up in the middle, then chances are your body's in deep REM sleep at the time, hence why you feel more disorientated and groggy and generally worse than before you tried napping.

This. I'm one of the people that gets migranes from it to, so this advice has proven invaluable. Of course, differnt bodies have different rhythms, so maybe for a given person it's 30-85 or whatever, but those guidelines have served me well.

Ironically, I find that 30 to 90 minute naps work best for me. Anything less doesn't do any good, and sleeping between 2 and 5 hours goes very, very badly.

When I get between 2 and 5 hours, it makes it almost impossible for me to wake up. I get caught in this weird state where I'm technically seeing what's around me, but I'm still stuck in a dream state and can't comprehend reality. It can take 2 or 3 hours for me to wake enough to realize that I'm me, and I need to get up (instead of, say, defusing a bomb on a spaceship, or something).
