I'm not a big fan of songfic either, even when I like the song being used, because most of the ones I've read just didn't do a very good job matching up the song to the character(s). It's usually either too generic or too much of a stretch. That said, I have to admit that I'm still kinda tempted to write a songfic about Nanny Ogg and The Assumption Song.
