I may ask my girlfriend since I'm curious now. She just finished law school and is studying for the bar exam.

As for drawing the line, I don't claim to have an answer. I'm generally in favor of judging things on a case by case basis. But a big part of the argument against hate speech involves an incitement to violence, which is illegal. So I suppose the argument is that straight white men are incited to violence against other groups more often than the other way around. I don't know. I'm against generalizations about any group.
