Re: I am/was a _______ Major, and yet..

I was a philosophy and english lit 'major', but I'm employed in a decent profession that isn't teaching and use my skills literally every day in what I do.

(I mean that's the overwhelming stereotype right, 'hurr hurr hope your philosophy degree teaches you how to make coffee', get #rekt STEM majors, not bitter at all)

That's because that's what the overwhelming majority of philosophy/lit majors end up doing lol. I can count three friends who did philosophy and are now baristas.

Good on you for bucking the trend though.

Interesting.

Most I knew (which was suprisingly few, we were an elite group of the handpicked few ;3 ) either went across to become lawyers, or ended up in government work.

For english lit I did see that reflected to an extent though.

Did we humanities people always have that problem, or is it the recession?

Oh no, it definitely predates the recession. It was a stereotype when I was little and I was an adult when the recession hit; I imagine it's been around at least since the 1940s if not earlier.

I have a job that's not working at a restaurant, but I already have it do I don't think it counts.

SA - Wow, was not looking at the keyboard. I promise I type better than that IRL.

*I already had it, so I don't think it counts.

I date STEM majors and make them pay for my food. Revenge is tasty.

You're doing gods work.

But remember STEM can be hereditary, worst case you might find yourself waking up one day with a kid who asks for a chemistry set and calculator.

Stay safe, god bless.

I didn't say I had sex with them. It takes more than food to get in the sack. They have to at least have something resembling a personality and we have to have compatible kinks. The last engineer I dated had the personality of stale cheese and he was more vanilla than is healthy for a twenty-something male.

But the Chipotle he bought me was delicious.

Years ago, my sister went to her college for an orientation specifically for honors program people. One of the speakers there was from the school's philosophy department. He joked that the best way to tell your parents you wanted to major in philosophy was to tell them you were going to major in dance. Then, several weeks later, switching to philosophy would seem infinitely preferable. ;)
