I love the first two Dragon Age games, but haven't been tempted into buying Inquisition yet. All the MCs I've seen look ugly, all the LIs seem boring (and apparently some are bugged so you can't romance them properly?), and all the plot spoilers I've heard are depressing. I want to be interested in it, but I'm just...not.

Besides that, I'm deeply apathetic towards everyone's female Cousland and how they're going to marry Alistair and be queen and have a million babies and possibly bang Zevran on the side too.

Alistair/Princess CousCous is so horrifically overexposed. I would rather be strapped down and forcefed motor oil than read a single Alistair/Cousland fic where they get married and Cousland is queen and they have a million babies and Zevran is their hot bisexual friend who occasionally pops in to ~spice up~ their generically perfect marriage. Barf.

Don't let other people's MCs put you off! Every one that I've seen posted has been either really ugly or Queen Luminessia Cousland levels of snowflakey, but actually messing around with the CC for yourself is completely different. I don't care for everyone else's Wardens and custom Hawkes, too, but I like my own characters. (I also really appreciated the realism and grittiness of the CC options, but then I also like Skyrim because everyone looks like a grubby goblin so.... different strokes.)

And I was really uninterested in the LIs going in, too. But they're actually pretty charming and fun. I actually went for a fourth playthrough just to play the Cass romance, which is something I never did for the first two games. (I was super disappointed at first that the only gay dude options were Bull and Dorian because qunari are kinda ew and I thought Dorian's mustache was terrible, but now I love Dorian and his silly mustache and holy god is he one of the best DA characters to date.)

The plot really isn't depressing at all, save for one scene that depends entirely on your imported save state. (Don't want it to be depressing? Stick Alistair on the throne or recruit Loghain.) I'd say it's actually a vastly more upbeat game than the previous two. DAO's incredibly grimdark, and DA2 is a weird mix, but DAI is a story about the world coming together again to fix things.

Totally agree on f!Cousland, though. And f!Lavellan. I seriously give zero fucks about your modded to absurdity MC.
