Re: I am/was a _______ Major, and yet..

It is harder because college misrepresents it (imo). I might just have really shitty luck. They teach us all this fun, engaging stuff. Not once did I experience this in actual schools. It was all worksheets. I had 4 placements in college. The elementary wasn't bad. High school was meh. The middle school was terrible. My teacher just did worksheet on top of worksheet. After graduating, I did some sub work and again, nothing but worksheets. I was a teacher's aide for a semester and WORKSHEETS! I don't know if these teachers are just beaten down or what, but it just turned me off of teaching altogether.

I should add I was a Special Ed major. All of my placements were for LD/ED students. And it seems like teachers had no support from the board/principal.

I work for a business that does shipping now. And I earn twice as much as I did as a teacher's aide.

Damn. I wonder if this is more of an American thing. I mean, we do do worksheets over here (Australia), but we vary it up a lot, too.

No wonder you hated it. Just handing out fucking worksheets, I'd be like Ian McKellan filming the Hobbit: "THIS WAS NOT WHY I BECAME A TEACHER."

I have no idea but it is really depressing. Even when I tried to suggest more engaging lessons, I was generally shut down. They have friggin smartboards they never use!
