I almost think there needs to be a separate trope for "woobies who are characters who have sad backstories/get beaten up a lot in canon" and "woobies who are jerkass villians who have sad backstories, and countless fangirls use said backstory to justify their murdering everything they see"

Yeah, like, I can handle the whump-bait. It kinda creeps me out a little, but it doesn't make me actively angry. Having all bad decisions excused with, "SAD BACKSTORY" just honks me off.
