When I finally went to see Othello, I loved Iago (and also wished someone would punch him in the face). I could really see how he was an inspiration for so many other writers that came after.

Other villians...

Steerpike from Gormenghast.
Hannibal Lecter.
Dracula, of course.
Hester from The Well.
Hedda Gabler's another female example that... well, I'm not sure if she's technically a villian, but she definitely fucks up everyone around her.
Raskolnikov from Crime & Punishment is another "technically a villian but also protagonist" who I find really interesting.
Javert from Les Miserables.

Light Yagami from Death Note.

I'm also fond of Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker from TDK, regardless of how I feel about the movies in general.
