You can still like a character and disagree with their actions. For example, I love Ursula but I still think she's evil and I'm glad she's dead. I see no contradiction here.

Angel is supposed to be a hero though, to the point he's treated as almost pure by the narrative. Ursula is a villain and being evil is her purpose in the story. It is very different. That being said I love Ursula, but if she killed puppies I'd probably hate her.

To me, the narrative was almost like another character whom I considered unreliable. Therefore, I don't take 'heroes' very seriously in RENT. They're not heroes, just people. They're, if anything, survivors if I were to consider them anything. Beyond that though, I don't really have issues with characters who are supposedly 'heroes' being really fucked up.

You have me currently trying to think of a villain that has killed puppies. That or just characters. I think there's a trope about it on TV Tropes. I'm looking.

EDIT: Holy shit what happened to TV Tropes? It's messed up. I'm... ugh, this is a nasty layout.
