Re: Tumblr's turning on Tamora Pierce
I haven't seen this place talk about Mackie but I've been less active. What i've seen is people being disappointed and talking about a lot of nuances about being, specifically, a black person in hollywood and having to play up to the old whites in power.
Personally i'm not torn over supporting a problematic marginalized person - depending on the offense, I can drop you just as easily as a white person.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-05 03:57 am (UTC)(link)"anyways today’s lesson is that u can’t fucking trust men. not even men of color. i’m gonna keep surrounding myself with woc and stop putting any hope into men"
"*Anthony Mackie pops up in a commercial for the local news*
Me: "Shut the fuck up, Mackie! You aren’t allowed anymore.""
"dear anthony mackie,
the days that I considered casting your sexist as fuck ass for anyone ever are over. go make your own fucking sandwich, ‘daddy’, no woman is your fucking maid and you should know better than to enforce outdated and dangerous as fuck gender stereotypes on national tv and laugh about it as if it’s a fucking joke.
sincerely,
hopefully every admin ever"
Also, dont justify what he did by saying the evil white old men must be why he is doing it. D:::::
Re: Tumblr's turning on Tamora Pierce
I'm not checking for him either after this.
I'm just telling what I saw....though immediately jumping to that line to combat....
Re: Tumblr's turning on Tamora Pierce
(Anonymous) 2015-02-05 04:16 am (UTC)(link)Bah. I don't know. I agree that nothing that was quoted there is really that bad. But the idea of cutting people off for saying something sexist, in a vacuum, is something that bothers me. I mean, there's all kinds of reasons you might want to bother with him, he could be wonderful for a million reasons. And it's, you know, one joke?
I admit that I'm probably the weird one in terms of tolerance, though, because I'm not sure there's any real point where I'm going to cut someone off because of an opinion they hold. Because of acting like a jerk consistently and being unable to stop, yes, but I don't think that's the same thing. But that's just how I feel.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-05 04:05 am (UTC)(link)It does seem like so much of this is a matter of perception, to the point where you can find just about any kind of reaction you want to something somewhere on the Internet. I'm sure the people who say Tumblr is losing its shit can find posts to source that, just as much as you can find people having reasonable discussions. It makes talking about this kind of thing fucking impossible sometimes.
Probably the best response is just to forget about whether people on the Internet are ridiculous or not, assume that they are, stop worrying about which digital tribe is guilty or innocent of which sins, hang out with reasonable people, and let everything else sort itself out.
